Components fair slides into void left by Lineapelle

A new leather and footwear trade fair with a focus on components that was launched in response to Lineapelle’s decision to move to Milan has just closed in Bologna.

Around 10,000 visitors were anticipated to visit CreaModaExpo from more than 40 countries over the three days from October 29 to 31.

Luigi Lucentini, its president, said the aim is to support “an area of great importance, particularly the footwear districts of Fermo and Macerata”.

Duccio Campagnoli, from BolognaFiere, told Italian Reuters it might be of interest to their “friends Lineapelle”: "It’s confirmation that there is a need.”

In March we reported tensions between Lineapelle’s then owners – the Italian tanners’ association, UNIC, and BolognaFiere. Italian press reported a vote over the Milan move resulted in six votes in favour from the UNIC side and five against from the Bologna side.

CreaModaExpo organisers said: “The fairs of Milan and Paris have gradually brought forward the dates of the events (up to the current dates of March and September) to meet the demands of tanneries that supply their products to luxury goods companies. Many companies, however, are disappointed with these early dates and we have decided to offer a trade fair in the traditional months of April and October.

“Bologna was chosen as the location due to the decade-long tradition in the organisation of fairs in the field of leather materials and components.”
