New UK shoe brand wants to source close to home

A former footwear buyer at major UK fashion retail chain New Look has launched her own footwear brand, specialising in high-end athletic-style shoes for women.

Sarah-Jayne Newey spent ten years at New Look before deciding to launch her own brand, Neon. With a focus on “style, luxury and women on-the-go”, she decided to make a strategy of working with small, family-run, UK-based footwear manufacturing partners a selling point.

“A key element of the brand is its British heritage,” Ms Newey said in August, ahead of Neon’s launch, “from design through to production. It was important for us to be able to manufacture our product here in the UK. More and more companies are looking closer to home for their manufacturing and production needs.”

Among the main benefits of this policy she highlighted being able to control order sizes, avoiding high import taxes, to monitoring quality control and the assurance of quality craftsmanship.
