Italian footwear manufacturers’ association Assocalzaturifici has said the importance of the US market for the upper-medium segment of the Italian industry has helped it win support from export promotions agency ITA for shoe brands to attend an industry event in Las Vegas.

As part of the FN Platform exhibition in the US city, from August 18-20, Assocalzaturifici has arranged an important Italian presence; 26 footwear companies have agreed to travel from Italy to take part.

Assocalzaturifici vice-president, Diego Rossetti, said his organisation wanted to help its member companies “customise and adapt the made-in-Italy offering” to the demands of buyers in the US.

In 2013, the US accounted for 9.9% of all Italian footwear exports in terms of value and 6.2% of all shipments in terms of volume. And in the first three months of this year, volume and value of shoe shipments to the US were up by 16.7%, with the value passing €200 million for the three-month period and the volume close to 4.4 million pairs.
