Shoe industry happy with Colombia’s anti-dumping policy

Commentators in the South American country have said anti-dumping measures that the government put in place in January 2013 have helped local producers. The measures apply to imports of footwear from all countries with which Colombia has no free-trade agreement.
As a result, imports fell from 19.8 million pairs in the first quarter of 2013 to 9.6 million pairs in the same quarter in 2014.
“This shows that the measures the government has taken are helping to regulate imports, keep them legal and give a fairer share of the market to our domestic footwear industry,” said Luis Gustavo Flórez, president of Colombian leather and footwear industry association Acicam.
