Bangladesh leather footwear exports for first 11 months close to $500 million

Official figures from the country’s export promotion bureau indicate growth of 35% year on year in the value of exports from the Bangladesh leather industry in the first 11 months of the current financial year, covering the period from July 2013 to May 2014.

Over the eleven-month period, shipments from Bangladesh of leather, leather shoes and leathergoods brought in export earnings of nearly $1.2 billion compared to just over $875 million for the same period in the previous financial year.

Leather footwear made the biggest contribution to the total with exports worth $493.8 million, an increase of 30.8%.
