Artisan shoes from a Ghanaian garage

Ghanaian entrepreneur Fred Deegbe is importing leather from Italy and Burkina Faso to make customised men’s shoes in his father’s garage in Accra.

He founded his brand, Heel the World, in 2011, leaving his job in a bank. He employs five artisan shoemakers and has built up a loyal following among local business figures in Ghana’s growing economy.

In recent comments to local media, Mr Deegbe said he believes he can make an impression on the international market too, starting with Ghanaian exiles returning home.
