Chinese shoe group moves production to US
A Chinese shoe group has opened a manufacturing facility in the US, just nine months after it announced plans to invest.
The $5.4 million plant in Jefferson City, Footwear Industries Tennessee, will produce workwear boots and leather shoes.
It is the latest example of what some observers are calling a resurgence of shoe manufacture in the US as companies try to offset rising wages in China and shorten time to market. The first order will be sold at US-based retailer Sears.
“I believe this is only the beginning, and we will be encouraging other supply-related industries to invest in reshoring to America," Lorretta Lee, founder of parent group Merchant House International, told local press.
