Guanajuato may be Mexico’s biggest producer of footwear, but rival state Jalisco is still an important contributor to the country’s total output.

Speaking ahead of the 2014 Modama shoe and leathergoods exhibition in Guadalajara in mid-May, the president of the Jalisco Footwear Industry Association (CICEJ), Francisco Jiménez Rojas, said that his members were producing a combined total of 45 million pairs per year.

Moreover, Mr Jiménez said Jalisco was responsible for supplying 80% of Mexico’s women’s shoes.
