China footwear exports reach 10.6 billion pairs

China exported 10.6 billion pairs of shoes in 2013, with a total value of $48.1 billion. These figures represent an increase of 5% in volume and of 8.5% in value compared to the corresponding figures for 2012.

Shoes with leather uppers accounted for only 8% of the total volume, at 866 million pairs. However, shoes with leather uppers contributed nearly 25% of the value, with $12 billion. This means Chinese leather shoes had an average export price per pair of $13.85.

In 2013, China imported 55.5 million pairs of shoes with a combined value of $1.7 billion. This represents an increase of 10.3% in volume and of 12.4% in value. It means that the average price per pair of the shoes Chinese importers brought into the country was $30.63.
