Price-per-pair: Portugal claims second spot

Footwear exports from Portugal had a value of EUR 1.7 billion in 2013 according to official figures just released. This represents an increase of 8% compared to values in 2012.

Industry association APICCAPS said in a statement that the value of shipments of shoes from Portuguese brands and manufacturers to export markets has increased by 28% since 2010. It also put the price-per-pair Portuguese products can command at an average of EUR 23.45 and said this was the second-highest price in the global footwear industry, behind Italy’s.

A total of 1,696 companies are involved in Portugal’s footwear industry and, together, these employ 41,295 people.
