Japan: Decline in leather shoe production in November

The Japan Leather and Leather Goods Industries Association has reported that the country produced 1.24 million pairs of leather shoes in November 2013, 5.2% fewer than in November 2012.

However, it produced 1.52 million pairs of rubber/ plastic shoes in the month, 1.8% higher than the year-ago period.

Imports of raw hides and leather grew 8.5% in November to JPY2.66 billion ($26 million) in value, while the country exported $23 million, a 19% rise over November 2012.
 
The value of consumption for footwear per household rose 2.6% for the month to $16.
