Fatal fire in footwear factory in China

China’s official news agency Xinhua has said at least 16 workers died following a fire at a shoe factory in the town of Wenling, in Zhejiang province, on January 14.

Firefighters rescued around 20 of the people working in the unnamed factory at the time, with five of these workers being treated in hospital afterwards. It took firefighting teams three hours to get the blaze under control.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is already under way.
