A challenging year for footwear manufacturers in Jalisco

11/12/2013
Footwear manufacturers in the Mexican state of Jalisco have warned that they are likely to record a 13% decline in sales for 2013, compared to 2012.

In the course of the year, three footwear production companies in the state, which is the Mexican footwear industry’s second-biggest producer after Guanajuato, have closed down. Official industry figures put Jalisco’s share of a total national output of around 250 million pairs per year at 16%.

In addition to the company closures, other manufacturers have reduced their workforces and the local authorities in Jalisco have recorded a decline in employment in the sector of more than 1,000 jobs, with the total now standing at a little of 15,500 jobs.
