Footwear exports decline for Argentina

22/11/2013
Footwear manufacturers in Argentina shipped 7% fewer shoes in the first nine months of 2013 compared to the same months last year. The figures come from the country’s main footwear industry association, CIC.

The decline in shipments of shoes with leather uppers was even more dramatic, falling from a little under 220,000 pairs in the January-September period in 2012 to 142,000 pairs during the same months this year. This represents a drop of more than 35%.

On a brighter note, CIC president, Alberto Sellaro, has said that the average price per pair of exported Argentinean shoes rose over the same period by more than 16% to reach $18.53 per pair. Mr Sellaro also pointed out that shipments of all types of shoes to Argentina’s Mercosur trading partners (Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay and Venezuela) also recorded an increase of 8% in volume and of 37% in value.
