Vietnam on course for record exports

Vietnamese leather and footwear industry association Lefaso has said exports from the sector this year could exceed $8.4 billion in value and are likely to reach at least $8.1 billion, which would be a record.

In the course of the first nine months of 2013, Vietnamese footwear and leather producers achieved export sales valued at just over $6 billion, an increase of 15.8% on the same period in 2012.

Current calculations suggest there are 1,100 major companies active in shoe and leather production in Vietnam, employing a total of 720,000 workers.
