Ministry intent on helping El Salvador shoe artisans

El Salvador’s ministry for the economy (MINEC) set up an inaugural footwear industry trade fair in San Salvador in mid-November with the specific aim of helping artisan shoe manufacturers in the country make better connections with buyers from the capital, from other parts of the country and from all over the region.

MINEC said artisan footwear makers should continue to make shoes and should take full advantage of government initiatives to help them, such as the November fair.

It said it was impressed by the industry’s growth, with the value of exports increasing by 48% last year and the number of people involved in shoe production rising from 18,000 to 25,000.
