Neighbours achieve higher demand for high-end shoes

The Spanish towns of Petrer and Elda, in the province of Alicante, are joined (or divided) by a single street, the Avenida de Madrid, that runs between them, but are also united by a quest to boost demand throughout the world for the high-end women’s shoes that footwear manufacturers in both places produce.

Figures for the first half of 2013 indicate important progress.

Exports from the two neighbouring towns to the US were up by 31% compared to the same period in 2012, and shipments to China were 20% higher.

Elda and Petrer are on track to produce a combined total of one million pairs of high-end women’s shoes this year.
