Footwear company George Shoe Corporation has signed an agreement with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Industry to build three factories and a tannery in the country.

Local reports say the Taiwanese company is investing $50 million in the developments in Mojjo, Adama and Addis Abeba and has begun to import machinery.

The company is expected to commence production by March 2014, with a capacity of 4,000 pairs of shoes a day, and with exported shoes expected to sell for around $250.
