Micam sets sights on US and Russia

Italian footwear expo Micam has announced a shift in dates, starting from next August, to take advantage of Milan fashion week traffic at the start of the year and moving its second edition from September to the end of August.

It is also eyeing the US and Russia as potential new venues after the success of the inaugural Micam Shanghai in March. A delegation from the organising comittee will fly to the States at the end of September to view locations.

“We are increasingly aware of the key role of theMICAM in the market, and precisely for this reason, we have modified our place in the international expo schedule, putting forward our dates beginning from the second half of 2014, when the event will take place from August 31 to September 3,” said Cleto Sagripanti, chairman of Assocalzaturifici, the Italian footwear association. ”Our objective is to look at the future and create an increasingly favourable environment for the industry, which will increase competitiveness.”

On the subject of the recent announcement of a shift in dates by Germany-based footwear fair GDS, Mr Sagripanti added: “I have great respect for GDS. But we are no longer competitors as Micam is a business trade fair. The new dates will reinforce the business mission embodied by Micam.”

Currently under way in Milan, Micam has grown its exhibition space to 68,000 m², housing 1,581 exhibitors, 593 of which are international.
