Church’s secures deal to create 150 new jobs in Northampton

The authorities in Northampton have approved a plan for high-end footwear brand Church & Co to expand its manufacturing facilities there. The project will involve redeveloping a disused bus depot in the city and could create as many as 150 new jobs. The site is close to a new enterprise zone that Northampton is developing.

Now owned by luxury brand Prada, Church’s has its roots in Northampton and still makes shoes there.

Commenting on the proposals, Church group chief executive, Stephen Etheridge, said: “We are proud to be part of Northampton’s heritage and the town’s bright future. It is an exciting time for us, and with our current site at maximum capacity with no room to develop, we have been exploring a number of different options. The enterprise zone gives us the opportunity to secure the long-term future of the brand.”

He said the company would create the new jobs over the course of five years.
