Sports brand Puma created a special pair of boots for Italian national team goalkeeper and captain, Gianluigi Buffon, to wear in his country’s 2014 World Cup qualifying match against the Czech Republic in Turin on September 10.

Incorporated into the design of the red-and-white Puma King boots was the player’s name and the phrase ‘136 caps’. In this context, caps refers to a sportsperson’s international appearances.

On reaching 136 games for Italy, Gianluigi Buffon equalled a record held by defender Fabio Cannavaro. Italy won the match 2-1 and qualified for the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.
