EU’s share of Vietnamese shoe exports falls

In terms of volume, Vietnamese shoe manufacturers shipped 148.7 million pairs overseas in the first seven months of 2013, an increase of 11.9% on the same period last year.
Analysis of the figures shows that the European Union is becoming a less important market for Vietnamese footwear manufacturers, while the US is becoming more important. In 2008, the country’s exports of footwear to the EU accounted for 52% of the total. In 2012, the EU’s share of Vietnamese footwear exports fell to 36.7%. Over the same period, the US’s share of Vietnamese shoe exports increased from 22.5% of the total in 2008 to 31.3% last year.
