Heels get the silent treatment

11/07/2013
A former researcher at a pharmaceutical company, Mary Arnett, is making an impression on the footwear industry thanks to a patented process she invented to eliminate the clicking sound of stiletto heels.

Ms Arnett left the pharmaceutical industry and studied footwear design, later completing internships at Liz Claiborne and Coach Footwear. After this, and after much trial and error, she was ready to launch her own brand of stylish but silent stilettos, appropriately called Ssh-oes.

She feels she has found the right combination of traditional shoe-making with built-in sound reduction technology through a patented heel tip that reduces noise when the wearer walks, prevents wear and tear, and acts as a shock absorber.

The first collection of Ssh-oes came onto the market for autumn-winter 2012-2013 and Ms Arnett is currently enjoying quiet success with her follow-up spring-summer 2013 collection. She already has stockists in more than 20 US states.
