Taiwan partnership means new Cordura fabrics for footwear

Polymer and fibre manufacturer Invista has said that a series of innovations in its Cordura fabric portfolio will be on show at industry events this summer, including OutDoor in Friedrichshafen, July 11-14, and Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City, July 31-August 3.

Among the new products on show will be Cordura Air Flow Technology (AFT) Fabric, a series of new knit constructions that feature enhanced abrasion and snagging resistance, combined with a high strength-to-weight ratio. Targeted primarily at outdoor, athletic and safety footwear, these breathable fabrics can also be used in durable mesh applications.

This development is the result of a collaboration with Taiwan-based Tiong Liong Corporation. The fabrics are lightweight, breathable solutions primarily designed for the outer shell footwear market, particularly outdoor footwear for hiking or trekking and athletic footwear. The collection includes a 150-250 grammes per square-metre PU-coated polyester range for good rigidity and a 200-350 grammes per square-metre range designed for felt lamination for the breathable outer shell fabrics that are often used in conjunction with inner membrane waterproof boot technologies.
