Ex-Timberland CEO to back unusual bike project
09/07/2013
Mr Swartz was chief executive of Timberland until September 2011 when VF Corporation completed the acquisition of the brand.
Now reports from Israel say he has put his weight behind Cardboard Technologies, a local company that has developed a bicycle made from recycled cardboard, melted recycled plastic and car tyres. Despite being primarily made of cardboard, the bicycle is durable, fire- and water-resistant, the company has said, and can support cyclists weighing up to 125 kilos.
Cardboard Technologies is in the process of trying to raise funding of around $5.5 million to put its invention into full production. It has said it wants to sell the cardboard bikes for between $30 and $50 in the developing world and for $100 in developed economies to subsidise the uptake in poorer countries.
