Lyon-based footwear and leather research and training centre CTC has announced that Marie-Claude Gazarossian has died.

She was the personal assistant to Yves Morin, the managing director of CTC and current chairman of the International Union of Shoe Industry Technicians, UITIC. She was also the assistant general secretary of AFICTIC, the French Association of Leather Industry Chemical Engineers and Technicians, which represents France at the International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies.

Her death, which happened as the result of complications after an operation at the end of May, was completely unexpected. She was 58 years old.

“Marie-Claude played a vital role in the French industry, acting as the crucial link between CTC, businesses, professional federations, community groups and institutional and political partners,” CTC said in a statement. “She was a vital part of the company’s DNA, she was at the very heart and soul of CTC. She was a cornerstone of the company, but managed to offer her commitment, her energy, her excellent organisational abilities and her fantastic interpersonal skills to the benefit of the whole industry. Anyone who ever met her will remember her as a discreet, humble, kind and considerate person who always managed to combine integrity with good humour.”

She started working at CTC in 1975 and served as personal assistant to each of the organisation’s last three managing directors: Jean Deleplanque, Marc Folachier and Yves Morin.
