Adidas and Nike only footwear groups in sustainable brands list

They are the only footwear brands to feature in the top 50 global companies.
The German group came in at number 15, while its US rival was ranked 31. H&M (number 42) and Spain’s Zara (48) were the only apparel brands to feature in a list dominated by car and technology companies. Toyota, Ford and Honda were the top three.
Adidas and Nike’s involvement in the Roadmap to Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals might have helped their public image. The pair have also been working on their energy efficiency, have been monitoring supply chains and upping usage of sustainable materials.
David Pearson, Deloitte’s global sustainability leader, said: “Customers and stakeholders are holding businesses more and more accountable for sustainability performance, and businesses are working hard to ensure that their external perception reflects their internal efforts. Leading global brands are thus showing increased focus and innovation in the sustainability realm - leading to improved programmes and reporting.”
Scores were calculated by combining standardised performance and perception scores. Consultancy Deloitte assessed each brand on 83 sub-metrics across governance, stakeholder engagement, operations, supply chain, transportation and logistics, and products and services. Interbrand conducted a survey in the 10 largest global economies (based on GDP), interviewing more than 10,000 consumers.
