Vietnam earned $3.1 billion in footwear exports in the first five months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 11.4%, according to the country’s General Statistics Office.

In May, exports totalled $750 million, driven by increasing orders from new importers. Shoe producers are said to have stable orders, with many big enterprises receiving orders for the third quarter.

The Viet Nam Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso) added that the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement negotiations will boost the leather and footwear industry, with products enjoying preferential tax of 0%, reduced from the current 14.3%. It said several British and German shoe importers have been to the country recently, scouting opportunities.
