India’s Bata to open 100 store a year

The head of Indian footwear group Bata has said the company plans to open 100 stores every year, after launching 189 in 2012.

Bata has about 1,250 stores across India and is planning more specialised footwear stores for its licensed brands such as Hush Puppies.

Bata’s chief executive, Thomas George, told local press that the company has seen 20% growth year on year in India. "China and India are our largest markets. Indonesia is starting to show some tremendous amount of growth. Here, we grow 20% year-on-year,” he said. He added that Pakistan and Bangladesh are also developing well.
