Hawaiian brand supports culture with footwear donation

A Hawaiian footwear brand is donating $135,000 worth of footwear to local lifeguards including a style it designed specifically for the role.

OluKai donates around $20,000 annually to the Hawaii Lifeguard Association, collected from donations at 2,000 North American stockists, according to local reports.

“A lot of brands support athletes, but our idea was that if we were going to be this true Hawaiian brand, let’s support the Hawaiian culture,” said Hawaii Brand Ambassador Matthew Murasko.

The company launched a light running shoe after Mr Murasko noticed lifeguards stalling to put on footwear before they went out on jet skis. The company will donate three styles to 450 lifeguards at an event at the weekend.
