Double-digit growth for Tunisian footwear and leather in Q1

Tunisia’s footwear and leather industry has reported an increase of 11.5% in the value of its exports in the first quarter of 2013, compared to the same period in 2012.

In the first three months of this year, footwear and leather manufacturing companies brought into the North African country export revenues of $171.7 million. Almost 60% of this total came from exports of shoes.

Overwhelmingly, Italy, France and Germany were the main export markets with, respectively, shares of 41.9%, 29.3% and 14.3%.

In the course of the first quarter of 2013, Tunisia imported footwear and leather products with a value of around $94 million, 9% higher than in the same quarter in 2012.
