Plastics manufacturer Bayer MaterialScience has said it believes polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) “present some distinct advantages” to manufacturers of coatings and adhesives. It added that adhesives formulated with PUDs are well suited to applications including footwear manufacture.

Dr Jeffrey Dormish, senior principal scientist at Bayer MaterialScience, has said PUDs provide a number of performance advantages over other formulations. PUDs have, for example, shown good adhesion to difficult-to-bond substrates, high initial bond strength, and resistance to moisture and plasticisers.
