Huntsman-backed stitching unit to ‘empower women’

The Hindu Times reported that the Minister for Social Welfare and Panchayat [assembly], AK Muneer, will inaugurate the unit, which it described as “a step towards empowering women by providing employment”.
The unit is being funded by chemicals manufacturer Huntsman International.
Over the past six years, the FDDC has trained more than 1,000 people in skills related to footwear manufacturing. Around 410 women are running small footwear units of their own and 250 are employed in larger firms.
