Colombian footwear company wins innovation award

CI Kids Club, a Colombia-based children's footwear manufacturer, has been named one of three small to medium-sized enterprises deemed the most innovative on the continent.

The companies were recognised at the UPS Entrepreneurial Spirit Awards, which were established to recognise the most successful SMEs in South America and the Caribbean.

CI Kids Club was nominated by Proxeport, Colombia’s export promotion agency, for its “innovative business model based on continuous learning”. It is one of the main suppliers of the children's footwear chain in the country, and one of the few companies that, in less than 10 years, has successfully exported its products to the US, France and Latin America. It counts Nordstrom, Hush Puppies and ASTER among its clients.

"There is so much talent and innovation in the region and these award-winning businesses are just proof of the promise coming from Latin America," said Ariel Armony, director of the University of Miami's Center for Latin American Studies. “Hopefully this contest and its winners will be a source of inspiration for established and start-up SMEs throughout the region.”

Participants from 14 countries submitted entries from an array of industries such as healthcare, IT, textile, business services and manufacturing. The other winners were Gashaball, a Mexican toy company, and Jani Clean, a Puerto Rican company specialising in janitorial products .
