60th anniversary moccasin exhibition at the Gucci Museum

19/03/2013
Currently open at the Gucci Museum in Florence is an exhibition to celebrate 60 years since the launch of the iconic horsebit moccasin by Gucci in 1953. It will remain open until November 2013.

On show in the exhibition is a vast collection of the moccasins that Gucci has been making for the past 60 years. The collection includes shoes for both men and women in a wide variety of styles, including a moccasin with a heel and a boot-moccasin hybrid. Also being displayed are moccasins of many different colours and materials: suede, patent leather, ostrich, crocodile, satin and canvas. As well as carrying the horsebit feature: a double ring and bar, representative of a horse's stirrup, the shoes also carry motifs such as the characteristic 'GG'.

The exhibition also includes the versions of the horsebit moccasin famously worn by Madonna, Brad Pitt and Jodie Foster.

Flagship stores worldwide are displaying samples of the 1953 Collection by Gucci in an array of colours, creative director, Frida Giannini, has explained.
