Safety shoe manufacturers rekindle old friendship

Safety shoes manufacturer JAL Group has signed an agreement with Simon Corporation Japan to “exchange technical know-how, new technologies and production processes”.

In 1986, Simon Corporation and Jallatte Sas (now part of JAL) signed a deal that allowed the Japanese company to launch safety footwear in the Asian market, designed with Jallatte’s expertise. This project stopped in 2005, following corporate changes at JAL.

Kazunori Toshioka, CEO of Simon Corporation, said: "We found in Jal Group’s top management the values, professionalism and enthusiasm that in 1986 led my father, Nobukazu Toshioka, then CEO of Simon Corporation, to sign the agreement with Jallatte. I am confident, therefore, that the mutual cooperation and exchange of know-how and information will bring great benefits to both Simon Corporation and JAL Group."

The project fits into the broader context of JAL’s reorganisation last summer by incoming CEO Daniele Ondeggia. He said: “We will invest time and resources to make this cooperation operational and fruitful, which I trust will open up interesting commercial implications for JAL Group in the Asian markets."

Mr Ondeggia’s plan also includes reorganising operations at the company’s Jallatte plant in Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort, France, and improving efficiency at its manufacturing facilities in Tunisia.

Simon Corporation has factories in Japan, China, Thailand and Indonesia.
