Buyers still rely on GDS

The March edition of GDS and Global Shoes attracted a total of 21,300 visitors, who travelled to Düsseldorf to see the autumn-winter 2013-2014 collections of 1,158 exhibitors from 39 countries.

In keeping with the winter theme, Düsseldorf had snow on each of the three days, bringing transport problems for many visitors. There was a marked decrease in visitors from Belgium and France, countries affected by particularly heavy snowfalls. The last day of the trade fair was also impacted by strikes at both Düsseldorf and Cologne airports.

Despite these difficult circumstances Werner Matthias Dornscheidt, chief executive of organiser Messe Düsseldorf, said he was pleased. “We hear from exhibitors time and again that decision-making buyers come to GDS,” he said. “Düsseldorf is and will continue to be a key meeting point for the shoe sector.”
