Footwear export declines let Indian leather sector down

Exports of leather and leathergoods, including shoes, from Indian in the first nine months of the current financial year (April-December 2012) had a value of just over $3.6 billion, a decrease of 1.3% in dollar terms compared to the same period a year earlier.

The value of leather shoe exports over the nine-month period was $1.2 billion, a decline of 7.5%. Footwear component exports fell further, by 18.9% to reach $180.6 million.
