Innovative leather finishes debut at Le Cuir A Paris

15/02/2013
A new-look Le Cuir A Paris was complemented by new displays, including one that showcased tanners’ response to creating innovative finishes and textures around set themes.

The Incube display is the result of a year’s work by a Paris-based design agency, which contacted all tanners present at last February’s show to see if they would like to take part.

Over the year; representatives from the agency visited 50 tanners across Europe, showed them the mood boards and asked then to produce innovative finished leathers to be displayed at the show, which took place in Paris this week.

The results included an iridescent, stretch leather, chrome tanned with a metallic finish by Megisserie Sotacuir; a memory-effect leather by Marmara Deri; a lame leather on a see-through film by Fedi Silvano Leather; and a lasered and laminated aniline chrome-tanned leather by Concerio San Biagio Vincenza Pelli.

Alongside Incube and the regular trends display area was an exhibition featuring French shoemakers and leathergoods workers, Les Bottiers de France. Some of France's top artisans, including a craftsman from shoemaker John Lobb, gave demonstrations of the work that goes into the handmade shoes.
