Politician urges European Commission turnaround on shoe labelling
14/02/2013
Ms Estaràs, who is from the important footwear-manufacturing region of the Balearic Islands, said in a formal question she raised in the parliament on February 13 that the lack of information on shoes could mean confusion for consumers.
She said protecting the rights of consumers was one of the things the European Commission did well and urged it to reconsider its decision over shoe-labelling.
The Commission had agreed to make labels of origin compulsory, but said at the end of 2012 that it would no longer press ahead with the proposal in its programme of work for this year.
