The International Union of Shoe Industry Technicians (UITIC) has opened its “call for papers” to be presented at the 18th International Technical Footwear Congress in November - the first to be held in China.

The theme this year is: “social responsibility: a challenge for the footwear industry”, and footwear manufacturers and experts are invited to share news of their latest developments and applications.

Organised by UITIC in collaboration with the China Leather Industry Association, the fair will be held in Guangzhou between November 13 and 16 and will encompass factory visits and two days of seminars.

The sessions will be: product and process innovation focused on sustainable development; working conditions and human resources; consumers and customers; and business practices and social responsibility.

“The footwear market is facing global changes and the last few years have seen a growing interest from markets and especially consumers, media and stakeholders on social responsibility,” said the association.

UITIC is looking for about 20 people to join the panels. Authors have until May 15 to submit a synopsis of their papers on the association’s website.

Established in 1972, UITIC aims to develop technical knowledge within the footwear industry, by organising conferences and encouraging knowledge-sharing between members.
