The minimum wage in China’s Guangdong Province will be increased by an average of 19% from May 1, 2013, the provincial department of human resources and social security said in a statement on February 5.

In the provincial capital, Guangzhou, minimum wage levels will rise by 19.2% to around $250 per month.

Many businesses complain that it’s impossible to hire people in Guangzhou at the minimum wage. Therefore, the monthly wages these companies will have to pay when the change comes into effect will be even higher.
