Mr Mascaró was the head of Calzados Ferreries, a brand originally founded by his father and his uncle. In 1980, his uncle set up a separate brand, Jaime Mascaró, which has probably become better known internationally and is a favourite brand of high-level models including Claudia Schiffer and Kate Moss, as well as of singers Lily Allen and Kylie Minogue.
Police said a local fisherman had handed himself in and confessed to the killing, which they said was a crime of passion.
