Spain: footwear component firms angry at tax authorities
17/01/2013
AEC president, Manuel Román, has confirmed after discussions with some of his 600 member companies that footwear components manufacturers are owed a combined total of at least EUR 6 million. He said the figure for all member companies could be as high as EUR 10 million.
“This is turning into an economic noose around the neck of small and medium companies,” Mr Román told local media. “It’s been building up since July and it’s now leaving many companies seriously short of money. We call on the government to realise the seriousness of the situation and to put the means in place to sort it out as quickly as possible.”
In addition to a longer-than-usual wait for value added tax to be refunded, the AEC president said some footwear components companies have complained of receiving visits from tax officials, accusing them of carrying out “dubious inspections” to delay the repayment process further.
