Valentino to partner with Semilla di Levane in new venture

Reports from Italy say a significant change is taking place at footwear manufacturer Semilla di Levane.

An important manufacturing partner to prominent fashion brands, including Prada and Chanel, Semilla di Levane is splitting its business into two parts, Italian media have said. One-third of its 140 employees will continue to make shoes for these brands, but around 90 footwear artisans will instead concentrate on a new, independent part of the business.

For the new Semilla di Levane venture, it will work in partnership with Valentino, with the Valentino Fashion Group taking a 50% share of this new part of the Semilla business. The partners have spoken of increasing Semilla’s output from 500 pairs of high-end women’s shoes a day to 800 pairs, and of creating new jobs.
