LIA elects first woman chair

Lisa Howlett, president of specialist leather shoelace manufacturer Auburn Leather, has been elected as chair of trade association the Leather Industries of America (LIA).

Fifth-generation representative of the family that founded Auburn Leather, Ms Howlett is the first woman ever to be elected chair of the LIA in its almost 90-year history.

Auburn Leather, which was established in Auburn, Kentucky, in 1863 as a manufacturer of leathergoods for the horse and buggy market before evolving into a producer of leather laces; it is celebrating its 150th year of business in 2013.
