Glasgow luxury footwear brand debuts at Pitti Uomo

Designer and co-founder Kevin Sefton has called the brand Govan Originals partly because he wanted the quality of the craftsmanship, design and materials going into the shoes to reflect the ship-building traditions of Govan, an industrial district on Glasgow’s southside.
Govan is already home to one luxury shoe company, Buchanan Bespoke Footwear, and Buchanan managing director, Diana Currie, is Mr Sefton’s co-founder for the new venture. However, both brands will operate entirely separately.
Kevin Sefton wants the “design inspiration” behind the new brand to set it apart. Selected styles in the debut collection feature a triangle stitching design to represent the bow of a ship, he explains, and some of the heel shapes he has chosen remind him of “a bow breaking a wave”.
Additionally, Govan Originals claims to have treated suede to create what it describes as “a new and exclusive raindrop effect that is a very fashion forward statement for a man”.
