China: shoe production up by 12% in value

Recent reports from the China Leather Industry Association have confirmed the number of “large-scale” footwear manufacturers in the country as just over 4,000.

In the first 11 months of 2012, these companies produced shoes with a value of $83.6 billion, an increase of 12.3% on the previous year.

Specific to leather shoes, the number of “large-scale” manufacturers in China is currently 2,378. Over the 11-month period, these companies produced shoes with a value of $56.5 billion. In terms of volume, they produced just over 4 billion pairs of leather shoes.
