It’s leather shoes that add value for Spain

These figures represent an increase of 10.6% in the volume of exports in the nine-month period and of 0.1% in value.
Asia, Russia and the US were the most positive markets for Spanish shoe exports. Shipments to most markets in Europe were down, compared to the first nine months of 2011.
Exports to the US enjoyed an increase of 13.9% in volume and of 17.7% in value. The average price per pair of Spanish shoes going into the US market over the period was EUR 41.26.
Spanish-made shoes fetched an even higher price per pair in China, EUR 49.22, and the value of exports to China went up by 2.5% even though the volume was down (by 4.8%).
Although shoes with leather uppers made up only 30% of the total volume of exports (32.6 million pairs), but brought in 62.2% of the total value, at just over EUR 1 billion.
