Spain: FICE president to step down after 20 years
11/12/2012
Current vice-president José Sanchís is favourite to take over, although some reports suggest Mr Sanchís would prefer not to take up the role full time so as to be able to continue to focus on his own footwear business in Elda, in the province of Alicante.
The most likely outcome is that Mr Sanchís will carry out the role temporarily while FICE searches for a full-time president.
Rafael Calvo has been FICE’s president for 20 years. He said on making the announcement that he would step down that he had wanted to retire for some time, having reached the age of 68 and having spent a total of 47 years working. But he said that, with the current difficult economic situation in Spain, he had not been able to find the right moment to walk away.
